Practical research methods, local contact gathering, and feasibility considerations for foreign companies evaluating Thailand as their next market — including the option to wait, run a smaller pilot, or decide the market is not a fit.
Feasibility is not a brochure
A useful assessment looks at demand in your specific category, Foreign Business Act and licensing constraints, realistic entry structures given nationality and capital, and operational risks in your model. Generic “Thailand opportunity” decks skip the constraints that actually decide go or no-go.
Talk to people who already operate
Desk research will not tell you how a distributor actually behaves, which licences stall in which province, or who the relevant association actually is. Contact mapping — distributors, partners, regulators, industry groups — is the difference between a report and a decision.
Structure follows the finding
If the research says proceed, you already know whether you need BOI, Amity, a standard company, or a lighter presence first. That shortens setup. If it says wait or pilot, you have avoided incorporating into a thesis that was never tested.
Do not pay for a justification
Research that is scoped to produce a “yes” is marketing. The value is an honest recommendation, including when Thailand is not the right move this year.
